FAQs
How does BodyTalk work?
See What is BodyTalk? and A BodyTalk session.
I've read those pages, but I still don't totally understand how it works.
Fair enough. But do you totally understand how your microwave or the internet works? Words can only go so far - BodyTalk is best demonstrated.
What will I feel during the session?
The experience is as individual as you are. Sensations can range from feelings of heat, cold or tingling in different areas of the body, to relief of pain or release of emotion. Stomach gurgling is also very common. All of these things can occur when energy starts to shift and change within the body. Some people might not notice any sensations at all. It's all normal.
What might I feel afterwards?
Again this can vary. Most clients feel a greater sense of well-being and relaxation. However, depending on what was addressed, you may also feel very invigorated or possibly quite tired as your body processes the results of the session. Many clients need more frequent trips to the toilet over the next day or two as their bodies release stress via the digestive system. Occasionally, flu-like symptoms may occur for a short time if a client’s body is ridding itself of an infection or toxins. If this happens always listen to your body, rest when needed and drink plenty of water.
How long is a session?
First sessions are generally 75-90 minutes. Subsequent sessions are up to 60 minutes, however the actual length of the session is determined by your own body and therefore may vary from session to session.
How many sessions will I need?
A good question, but difficult to answer. As BodyTalk has an individualized approach, the number of sessions will vary for each person. Some people experience immediate results after just one session, for others the changes may be more cumulative and unfold over a series of sessions. Symptoms are often just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ and therefore your innate intelligence may require other issues ‘below the waterline’ (the root causes) to be addressed first before it can address your specific complaint and allow the changes to hold. Many clients initially come with a specific health concern but then continue to have BodyTalk sessions because of their increased sense of wellbeing and clarity.
What should I wear?
Sessions are done fully clothed so come in comfortable clothing.
Is it just for physical problems?
Not at all. Bodytalk can help on all levels – physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. Anxiety, depression, unresolved grief - the list goes on. With the BodyTalk System the client’s innate intelligence indicates what is needed in that moment.
Should I stop taking or change my medicine after a session?
No. BodyTalk is not a substitute for medical treatment or medications. The BodyTalk practitioner does not diagnose illness or disease, nor do they prescribe medications. BodyTalk can work alongside other treatments, including Western medicine, and it is fine to get BodyTalk sessions while on medication. However as the body becomes more efficient through BodyTalk sessions, you may be able to reduce your intake of medication, although this should only be done under your doctor’s supervision.
How did BodyTalk originate?
The BodyTalk System was first developed in the 1990s by Dr John Veltheim. Dr Veltheim was an Australian chiropractor, acupuncturist, philosopher and author. In addition he had extensive training and experience in a broad range of other modalities including Applied Kinesiology, bio-energetic therapy, osteopathy, sports medicine, homeopathy, reiki, counseling, neuroscience and comparative philosophy and theology. He also had extensive knowledge in the field of quantum physics and Consciousness and had spent much time lecturing internationally on these topics. BodyTalk was initially developed out of his search to improve his own health issues. He utilized his wealth of knowledge to combine the best of all the modalities into one system and create what we now know as The Bodytalk System.
It's all sounding pretty hippy dippy. Does this actually work?
I understand your skepticism. I like to think of myself as not being easily fooled and I was a skeptic too before my first session. But you're still reading so it's obviously of interest to you in some way. I can only speak from my own experience, but as both a practitioner and client myself I regularly see great results in all number of health and wellbeing concerns.
